In Illinois there is a law called the Mandatory Minimum sentencing law that is set in place to lock away many violent offenders. However, in Chicago, this law is affecting many innocent people and those people who commit petty crimes, such as petty thefts, drug offenders and non-violent, low-level offenders. This law is mainly targeting young, African American, males and causing high incarceration rates and overcrowding in the prison system. This documentary suggests that there are many other ways to rehabilitate people and help them to return to society, rather than locking them away. While watching this film you will realize that this law is unfair and should be a changed.
